Morning all
Just been reviewing the banter over pirates, and it's got me thinking.
Basic question: Should much (not all) of this chatter be left for the freeforms?
Arguments / idle thoughts
I know the boards are here for discussion, and without using them there wouldn't be much point in having an Astropath on board. However, Freeforms are places for inter-character discussion - in fact, it's what they're designed for. I recognise there are issues with not having an 'audience of 30' in the freeforms, whereas everyone can respond to these posts (if they're active online - I know my wife doesn't troll the boards). However, are we going to turn up in 3 weeks time with nothing to discuss? Sure, the GMs have promised us a big surprise, but ... frankly, will that keep us going for 3 hours?
If the powers that be are happy with the radio chatter currently underway then please, feel free to slap me down. But if I have to conduct a loyal singalong, heretic burning and hymn service to fill the last hour, i'd like some warning to defrost a heretic.
Discuss.

I think board chatter will often increase the number of points for discussion at a freeform. These points will be tangential rather than key to the overall story of the campaign, but I think character stories are cool.
This early in the campaign I think board chatter helps to establish and get a feel for characters and their idiosyncrasies. In the first game I felt like a lot of conversations started with 'what is your name and which ship are you with?' and ended shortly thereafter. By seeing people post things, I think I get an idea of what kinds of things I might want to talk to them about later.
That's one alternate viewpoint anyway.
Damon.

Totally with damon, in an out of character announcement I am being purposly vague about the pirates I have A TONNE more stuff to tell everyone but I am keeping that for the game.

I wasn't saying we should all shut up, just make certain we have something to chat about next month. Me, I blather on for a living, but as long as other people still have things to say , then it's all good.
