Post subject:  A Question of Scale

Hey all,

Just wanted to share some information with you all for comparison. During some of the tabletops, some groups have had occasion to search derelict ships, usually over the space of several hours of "in-game" time. We've usually treated this as a search of the "core" components of the ship - the bridge, plasma drive etc. A full investigation of a ship would be something undertaken over days, if not weeks by an army of people.

Using an example, Jericho Class Pilgrim Transport (one of the smaller ships in the book) is approximately 2,250 metres long, which is roughly the length of the Sydney CBD from Circular Quay to Central Station. The Jericho is 300m abeam which is about four city blocks or one and a half times Hyde Park. Standing at roughly 500m from the base of its ventral fin to the top of its navigational tower, the Jericho is the same height as the world's second tallest building - the Taipei 101.

So as you can see, starships in this setting are as large as small cities, and often house an equivalent number of people (20,000 in the case of the Jericho). This may be something to keep in mind if you later find out your crew "missed" something searching another ship (or potentially their own).
